*Senate President Cautions Secessionists
The Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan has condemned groups and individuals calling for the disintegration of Nigeria.
Lawan was speaking at a ceremony to present cars, motorcycles and other empowerment kits to members of the All Progressives Congress, APC officials as well as women and youths in Katsina.
He said “some disgruntled elements are advocating the disintegration of the country based on some fake claims that the nation has failed”.
“It is absolutely wrong to say that Nigeria is a failed state eventhough the nation is facing some challenges.
“With collective efforts from the LGA’s, State Governments and the federal government, the challenges can be tackled and solved.
“The three tiers of government in the country can come together to tackle the menace threatening the corporate existence of the nation” he said.
Earlier, the senator representing Katsina Central Zone, Alhaji Kabir Barkiya, said that he had spent over N50 million to purchase the vehicles, motorcycles and other items for distribution to members of the constituency.
Barkiya explained that the motor vehicles and motorcycles were given to APC Local Government and ward chairmen while the grinding, knitting, and sewing machines were given to women and youths.
In his remarks, Governor Aminu Masari urged the beneficiaries not to sell the items but use them to earn income to maintain their families and the party at their various constituencies.
Masari urged lawmakers to contribute their quota in empowering women and youths to reduce youth reactiveness which is a major cause of insecurity in the country.
“The vehicles, grinding and knitting machines are not for sale, but a gesture to assist the beneficiaries to become self-reliant.
“If you sell the items the money will finish within a few days and you will go back to square one” he said.
