The Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq disclosed this in Lokoja at the flag off of the scheme.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Bashir Alkali, Hajiya Farouq said a cash grant of twenty thousand naira each would be given to targeted women across the thirty six states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja aimed at reducing poverty.

According to her, three thousand women from the twenty one local government areas of Kogi State are to benefit from the scheme with a view to boost thier trade and businesses for greater income.

In his address, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello represented by his Deputy, Chief Edward Onoja restated the commitment of the State Government in partnering with the Federal Government towards poverty reduction in the country.

Governor Bello described the initiative as a welcome development meant to take women out of poverty and making them self reliant.

He charged beneficiaries to use the grant for the purposes intended.

In their separate remarks, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Fatima Buba and Special Adviser on Special Project, Abdulkareem Onyekehi said the cash grant for the indigent rural women would help cushion the negative effect of covid nineteen pandemic.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Christopher Queen expressed appreciation to both the Federal and State Government for the gesture, promising that the cash grant would be used for the purposes intended.

Highlights of the event was the symbolic presentation of twenty thousand naira each to beneficiaries of the scheme.
