Jigawa state Consumer Protection Committee says it has destroyed adulterated commodities it seized worth four million naira in Maigatari local government area of the state.
The Chairman of the committee, Mallam Farouk Abdallah made this known to newsmen in Dutse.
He said the seizure was carried out in different markets after the committee surveillance.
Mallam Farouk Abdallah said three million naira was collected as fine from people convicted by the tribunal for adulterating food items.
According to him, 37 people were arrested and prosecuted since its establishment 17 months.
The chairman said the committee was concerned over the alarming rate of adulteration of food stuff in some parts of Gumel, Maigatari, Sule tankarkar, and Babura markets.
Farouk Abdallah reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to arrest anyone found adulterating food items.
