The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, has promised to support Local Producers of Assistive Devices for Person’s with Disabilities.
Hajiya Sadiya made the promise in Makurdi at the commencement of a 3-Day Capacity Building for Local Producers of Assistive Technologies.
The Minister who was represented by the Director Special Needs of the Ministry, Mrs. Onwukwe Nkechi, said workshop was organized to enlighten and encourage local producers to develop and improve on quality production of Assistive Devices.
She urged the participants to look inward as the cost of importing the devices were becoming so high for Federal Government, and challenged the participants to deliver and match up with foreign counterpart.
Adding that the Ministry was working in collaboration with partners to nurture and harness the potential of Person’s with Disabilities for the sustainable growth of the nation.
The Commissioner of Gender Affairs and Social Development, Benue State, Eunice Terumbur Tachia, represented by the Commissioner for women Affairs and Social Development Mrs Tabitha Girgi. Said the state Governor is committed towards the plight of PWDs, through its vocational and empowerment programmes to make them self-reliance.
The 3 Days capacity building training was first in series planned for implementation across the six-geopolitical zone
