Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has organised a two Capacity training for Norther Stakeholders on Community Emergency
Minister of Humanitarian Affair, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk while declaring the training open in Kaduna said the participants are espected to Understand the roles and responsibilities of first responders towards mitigation of disasters.
The Minister represented by the Deputy Director in charged of Disaster Management, Dr Abubakar Sulaiman explained that, in line with her Ministry mandate it had provided effective coordination of National and International humanitarian intervention to ensure strategic disaster mitigation, preparedness and response.
She said the the Ministry in partnership
with Mzury Nigeria Limited organized the two day training for the purpose of guiding the participants from northern states to Identify the consequence of disaster for quick response and solution on time.
Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk further revealed that, the training has been carefully designed to guide the participants being the closest to
the communities to understand the effect of disasters on migration and how to mitigate such.
Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk expressed
hoped that, at the end of the training, all the participants would understand how to assess the nature and scale of the disaster emergencies and also to Provide search and rescue assistance as well as basic care immediately after
the disaster emergencies.
They also to “Gather and provide accurate information on the disaster emergency to mitigate migration, Provide information on any local equipment and capability as well as mobilize
such for disaster emergency usage”
According to her, the training would go a
long way In building community resilience to disasters and subsequently improve humanitarian conditions.
The Zonal Coordinator, North West of the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, Alhaji Bani Imamu Garki commended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk for the coming up with the initiative to develop the capacity of Community Emergency Responders, described it as timely.
Alhaji Imamu Garki gave an assurance that, the training would be useful and benefit the participants in various ways, urged the participants to take the training very seriously and put into practice what they have learned in their places of work.
He further reminded people to understand that, disaster management was not only government responsibility, stressing that, every one has duty on disaster management
The representative of MZURY company Noora Imam Shehu said the participants are from various offices of States Emergency Management Agency SEMA, NEMA and Refugees Commission.
