Decline in morals, ethics, character and citizenship values becoming threat to peace and nation building – FG

The Federal Government says a decline in morals, ethics, character and citizenship values have become a threat to the attainment of peace and nation building.

The Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare stated this in a message to an event that climaxed the 70th Anniversary of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre in Abuja.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Nebeolisa Anoka, Mr. Dare explained that Nigerians must imbibe the ethics of discipline, integrity, dignity of labour, social justice, religious tolerance, self-reliance and patriotism
for the sustenance of peace and justice in the country.

A former Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr Solomon Dalung advised those calling for division to join in promoting a united nation, but urged Government to take drastic steps in addressing insecurity in the Country.

A guest lecturer from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Ezra Gunen, said that security could be addressed if youths were mobilized into meaningful Programmes.

The Director General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center, Mr. Jonah Bawa expressed the pleasure that Nigerians were calling for the enactment of an act that would make it mandatory for every aspiring political leader to pass through the Center.

Highlight of the event was the cutting of Anniversary cake and presentation of Excellent Leadership Awards for outstanding Man O’War membership.

Our correspondent reports that the Center was established in 1951 and is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
