Reps probe funds spent on past maintenance of Port Harcourt, Warri, Kaduna refineries

The House of Representatives, has resolved to pursue a comprehensive audit of funds so far expended on the maintenance and rehabilitation of the nation’s refineries.

These included Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna refineries.

This was sequel to a Motion moved by a member from Akwa Ibom state, Onofiok Luke.

Mr Onofiok, said the NNPC 2014-2018 Audit Report indicated that the Nation’s four Refineries had recorded over one point six Trillion naira cummulative losses within the period.

With this, according to the Lawmaker, the national assembly must ensure judicious use of the proposed One point five billion dollars, approved by the federal executive council for the rehabilitation of Port Harcourt refinery.

He said this was because the facility has failed to perform after years of rehabilitation.

Mr Onofiok, also stressed the need for the house to examine the performance bond, assurance, warrantees and guarantees put in place for operating and maintaining the Port Harcourt Refinery Plants after commissioning.

Adopting the motion, the House urged the executive arm of government to grant licences and provide incentives for the building and construction of Modular Refineries in the country.
