Rear Admiral Jason Gbassa has taken over office as the new Flag officer commanding western naval command Lagos .

He takes over from, Rear Admiral Oladele Daji
who has been re- assigned to National Defence college Abuja

Rear Admiral Daji while handing over the command appreciated God for the opportunity to serve in the command and the support he received from personnel that enhanced the maritime security in the waterways of the area.

He stressed that the strategy adopted during his tenor paid off and gave impetus to the commands operational successes.

Rear Admiral Daji said over 260 raids and clearance operations were conducted to neutralize pirate camps and criminal hideous in coastal communities across the command’s area of responsibility

He called on officers and men of the Command to give the same support he received to his successor

The new FOC Rear Admiral Jason Gbassa who was formally the Director project monitoring Defence Headquarters promised to build on the successes of his predecessor.

He, urged personnel of the command to feel free to suggest areas of improvement as he is open to suggestions.

Rear Admiral Gbassa thanked the Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Awal Gambo for the opportunity to serve the Nigerian Navy in a higher capacity and would do all in his powers to raise the standard of security in his domain.

Rear Admiral Jason Gbassa is the 40th flag officer commanding western naval command

Western Naval Command which is the pioneer command and indeed the first operational command of the Nigerian Navy was established in 1969 with his head quarters in Apapa Lagos .

The event was witnessed by some Senior officers from both military and paramilitary Members of NOWA and family members.
