President Muhammadu Buhari has paid tribute to the patriotic martyrs of the Nigerian civil war, whose sacrifices strengthened the unity of the country.
The President paid the tribute in Abuja, while welcoming World leader of the Tijjaniyya Islamic Religious Movement and Grand Khalifa of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, Sheikh Muhammadul Mahy Niass, who called on him.
President Buhari thanked the Movement for their profuse prayers for an end to the war and the re-unification of Nigeria.
The President recalled that in the 30 months of the civil war, Nigerians on both sides lost numerous lives and prayed that never again shall Nigeria experience such a horrible situation.
He commended the Movement’s efforts in finding solutions to the problems of security in the country, and the peaceful conduct in carrying out its activities.
Earlier, the leader of the Tijjaniyya in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Usman, had prayed for continued peace and blessings for the country.
Also speaking, Sheikh Niass said he had come to formally introduce himself as the new leader to the Government and people of Nigeria.
