MAGASHI LAUDS SENATE COMMITTEE ON DEFENCE FOR COMMITMENT TO NATIONAL SECURITY

…..WOOS COMMITTEE FOR MORE BUDGETRY ALLOCATION TO DEFENCE .

The Minister of Defence Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (retd) has lauded the supportive role of the 9th Assembly Senate Committee on Defence for deploying legislative instruments towards defending National territorial sovereignty and integrity.

General Magashi gave the commendation when the Senator Aliyu Wamako led Senate Committee on the Defence came on Oversight visit to the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Ship House, Abuja.

He said working as a team for national interest with the committee has impacted positively on Service delivery.
He said the aggressive and decisive pursuit of the mandate of the Ministry to defend and protect national sovereignty against infractions as well as promotion of national, regional and global peace are made possible owing to the legislative support being guaranteed by the Committee.

The Defence Minister however blamed thei seemingly low performance of the Ministry in the 2020 budget on Covid-19 pandemic lockdown and other challenges.

General Magashi told the committee that the Nigerian Armed Forces in synergy with other agencies are unrelentingly decimating the bandits,terrorists and kidnappers in their camps and corridors and gave a ray of hope that there is green light at the end of the tunnel.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Defence Aliyu Wamako said the statutory performance of the Oversight duty at the Ministry of Defence is to interrogate the Ministerial deliverables approved for the Ministry in the 2019/2020 budgets and to see the prospect for the new fiscal year spending and performance.

Senator Wamako thereafter raised some fundamental questions of how far-so-far regarding the operations of the Nigerian Armed Forces targeted at ending the nation’s insecurity.
