Kwara State Government says it has put in place proactive measures to prevent the outbreak of Avian Influenza in the State through improved surveillance and disease control method.
The Permanent Secretary, of the state Ministry for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hajiya Maryam Mohammed stated this in a press statement made available to Newsmen in Ilorin.
According to her the disease has devastating effect on poultry industry as well as farmers livelihood .
Hajiya Mohammed explained that the State Government, in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has activated it’s Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza emgency preparedness plan to ensure safety of birds .
She advised poultry farmers to increase the level of biosecurity in their farm and reduce unnecessary movement of visitors.
