In Kebbi state, from January to date, over two hundred rape cases has been recorded.
The founder of a Non -Governmental Organization, Zaki’s Gem Support Foundation, Hajiya Nafisa Abubakar Zaki, disclosed this known on the occasion of the 2020 International Conference on Gender Based Violence in Birnin Kebbi.
Hajiya Nafisa Zaki, said in the last few months, her foundation had also received 45 new cases of rape in the state.
She added that though, the state had no database for accurate statistics on sexual Violence but effort was being put in place to collaborate with the hospitals, state Hisbah Command and other relevant security agencies for the purpose of coming up with not only a harmonized but also an accurate data.
Hajiya Zaki, said the state government must be commended for the singular effort of establishing a sexual assault referal center in the state owned medical center at Kalgo saying, the center could now provide psychosocial, Counselling and referral support to the victims of sexual violence.
She explains that, the campaign against sexual abuse currently taking place in the state was part of the 16 days of activisms for Gender Based Violence (GBV), adding that, rape cases in the state had became common and frequent and called for awareness and enlightenment on the part of women, girls and parent on how best the vulnerables could be protected.
