The screening of the new service chiefs is currently ongoing at the house of Representatives.
In his opening remarks, the chairman of the screening exercise, who is also the chairman house committee on defense, Mr Babajimi Benson, explained that the essence of the Constitution requiring the Service Chiefs to be confirmed by the National Assembly is to reiterate the supremacy of civil authority over the military in a constitutional democracy.
The Lawmaker stated Nominees will be grilled on questions covering a wide range of subjects which includes, Professional skill and experience, Nigeria’s war on terror and insurgency as well as insecurity in general.
Other areas according to him include, Funding of the military, Strategic security knowledge and vision of the Nominees as well as Welfare of military personnel.
The committee later went into a close door session with the Nominees.
