Governor Zulum uncovers 650 ghost households in IDP camp

Borno state governor Babagana Zulum has discovered 650 ghost households at Mohammed Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies camp in Maiduguri.

The Governor who paid an schedule visit to the camp, personally supervise a headcount which ended by 1 am on Sunday, was to identify the actual number of IDPs.

In a statement by the Spokesman of the Governor, Isa Gusau says out of over 1000 households only 450 households were found to be real IDPs.

The statement adds that the exercise was conducted in order to put a stop to rampant cases of dubious residents pretending to be displaced persons, who spend day times at IDP camps to share food meant for IDPs. 

“Governor Zulum was not averse to approving support for any citizen who may be vulnerably in need of food, however, the Governor is vehemently opposed to some residents making dubious claims in other to take what is meant for IDPs while also benefiting from other existing welfare activities that target non IDPs”.

The headcount was conducted alongside an official of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Air Commodore Mustapha Abdullahi, and commissioners for Agriculture Bukar Talba, and that of Local Government and Emirate Affairs Sugun Mele.
