Federal Ministry of Education, collaborates with World Bank, to establish skills Development centres

The Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with the World Bank is to establish three skills Development centres, one in each of the three Senatorial Districts of Benue State.

Permanent Secretary in charge of the Ministry, Architect Sonny Echono made this known when he led a delegation to pay Governor Samuel Ortom a courtesy visit at Government House, Makurdi.

Architect Echono said the ministry has already identified the proposed Federal Polytechnic Adikpo, the Central Bank Entrepreneurship Centre in Makurdi which are currently not being utilized and another facility in Otukpo for the centres.

The Permanent Secretary who disclosed that funds for the programme were already available said the focus would be to train participants in the entire agricultural value chain and other areas such as plumbing, mason and POP work.

Architect Echono pointed out that the Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo would soon commence admissions while principal officers and governing councils have been approved for the Federal Polytechnic in Wannune and the College of Education in Edugbo.

He advised the state ministry of Education to be more proactive in creating awareness of opportunities at the Federal level such as enrollment of students at the Gifted Children School in Suleja and other scholarship programmes for people to maximize the opportunities.

Responding, Governor Samuel Ortom expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for establishing three higher institutions in the state during his tenure as well as the proposed skills Development centres and assured of giving adequate support to all initiatives of the Federal Government.

Governor Ortom directed the Commissioner for education, Professor Denis Ityavyar and that of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Ngunan Adingi to work on creating awareness for the people to enroll more in Federal Colleges as well as maximize scholarship opportunities.#Terna Injua
