Environmental Sanitation Mobile Court in Nasarawa State has prosecuted 42 persons for violating the monthly environmental in sanitation laws in the State.

Chief Prosecutor at the court sitting in Lafia, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed said the offenders were arrested at various locations in Lafia metropolis engaging in their private businesses during the hours of environmental sanitation.

Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed who is also the Chief Environment Officer in the state Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources stated that the suspects were prosecuted in line with the provision of Section nine,subsection two of the Nasarawa State Environmental Sanitation Law.

He pointed out that the environmental sanitation offenders were convicted and sentenced to between two and four months imprisonment with option of fines.

Acting Permanent Secretary Nasarawa State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Mr. Jonathan Kwaghkaha has described the level of compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation as impressive.

Mr Kwaghkaha noted that the state government had strengthened the capacity of the environmental inspectors and deployed to areas that were not previously covered during the exercise to ensure compliance.

He called on residents of the state to always keep their environment clean as part of measures towards averting outbreak of second wave of COVID-19 and other diseases.

The permanent Secretary, added that the monthly environmental sanitation was shifted backward instead of month end due to the Christmas celebration.
