Government’s focus on agriculture is paying off handsomely – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says the government’s focus on agriculture is paying off handsomely.

The President, who made the assertion in Abuja while receiving in audience former Ethiopian Prime Minister, Mr. Ato Hailemariam Boshe, said Nigerians were not regretting the policy.

He said Nigeria needed to go back to land, as petroleum could no longer sustain the country, particularly with its fluctuating prices.

President Buhari remarked that today, Nigerians had been eating what they grow, and that stoppage of importation of many food products had helped the country to generate employment and save considerable amount of foreign exchange.

The former Prime Minister congratulated President Buhari for the achievements Nigeria has attained under him, especially in agriculture, and for successful management of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He stressed that Africa must emulate the agricultural achievements in other continents, saying that with Nigeria having achieved greatly in rice production, the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa aimed to champion the Nigerian policy at the continental level.

He suggested that Africa should have a common voice on food self-sufficiency, emphasising that the continent can feed the globe.
